Building Green

Mission : To make green building the norm for residential and commercial construction in Central Oregon.

Green Building is "innovative building and site design techniques that improve the quality and performance of buildings while simultaneously reducing stress on the environment."

Green Building is a whole systems approach to design, construction, and operation of buildings with three converging fundamental objectives:increase energy efficiency, improve indoor air quality and conserve natural resources.

Across the country, people are increasingly demanding these green values in new and remodeled homes as well as the commercial and public buildings in which they spend time. For some, the primary driver is energy savings and lower utility bills. For others, it’s knowing that homes are safer for children or work places more productive for employees. For still others it’s about preserving old growth forests or reducing global warming while insuring a sustainable supply of beautiful, highly functional building materials.

At the moment, about 54 percent of energy consumption in the United State is linked to buildings and their construction. Buildings account for 35 percent or more of CO2 emissions in the United States, one quarter of the world’s wood harvest and one sixth of the world’s freshwater withdrawals. Up to 30 percent of North American landfill space and is taken up by construction and demolition debris. All of these unsustainable rates of consumption/pollution can be greatly reduced—just by building differently—with far better air quality and lower operating costs in the bargain.
